Vacation Day 2 Phillies - Marlins

Day 2

Laid out my running gear last night with no promises to myself or the gear.. Just a thought that if I woke up early enough I'd head out for 3 around the development here. As it turned out I did wake up a little before 5 and it was still pretty dark out. I really wasn't in the mood for that (although I did bring my headlamp) so I decided to wait for the sun. Unfortunately (as far as running goes) the next thing I knew it was 7:00. Since there had been talk about getting on the road early and somewhere there was mention of 8 am I decided a shower and repacking the bags (it's different from going through security than day travel) was a better use of my time. It's just a little before 8 now and we aren't really anywhere near leaving that I can see. That's fine with me. It's vacation and taking our time is part of the deal. If I'd really had my heart  set on running I would have asked for clearer instructions before going to bed last night.

It's a beautiful sunny morning. I'm sitting out on the pool deck as I write this, beginning efforts to rehydrate. (Warning likely TMI alert for some of you.) I went to bed passing the pee test and woke up failing big time. THAT's one of the side effects of air conditioning for me. Last night was better than some. I didn't get as far as headache or puffy eyes. And for my Phillyfit friends, I am not whining I'm just explaining. :) However, it sure does look like whining so I'll probably not mention it after this.

We are eventually headed to Miami today (all four of us- Me, Dave, KT and JL) and for tonight we have tickets for the Phillies - Marlins game. time to go check on the progress toward departure.

4:30p.m.

Stopped at the Wawa for more free coffee before hopping on the highway to Miami. Tomorrow KT and JL will head back home and Dave and I will head to Key West so we took two cars- a boy car and a girl car. The boys lead the way. We still aren't sure why they got off the highway going south only to get back on again going north and then back off and on again going south. Perhaps they really liked that stretch of road?

We checked into our motel and went over to South Beach for lunch and of course the obligatory look at the ocean. I was the only one who went in. The water was perfect but the waves were severely lacking due to a sandbar.

Next stop the ballgame.

10:30 p.m.

Phillies 1 Marlins 0. Jimmy Rollins hits a home run on the second pitch of the game and that was it for scoring. Kyle Kendrick was having one of his rare on games.

Dave got his hat and can cross the Marlins off his list of teams. The stadium - in my opinion - is nothing to get excited about. First off the retractable roof was closed and indoor baseball just doesn't feel right to me.

So, There are things about baseball that I don't understand. For example:

- The neighborhood play. Really?
- The fact that a player can be at home plate with a BAT in his hand with the bases loaded and if he draws a walk he gets credit for a run BATTED in but does not get credit for an official at BAT. Yeah, that makes sense.
- And then there is the fact that the Brewers are a National League team. Don't even get me started on this one.....

I've come to accept these things as "part of the game". I've been raised to love the game despite, if not because of, it's idiosyncrasies   Tonight however I witnessed something that is unacceptable, intolerable, and just plain wrong.

The Marlins have cheerleaders! This group of men and women are called the Energy Team but really the look and act like cheerleaders. My respect for the team is gone.

The trolley home - like the stadium - was full of Phillies fans. we were the last ones on the trolley and so had to stand. A guy sitting near me jumped up and insisted I take his seat. I tried to resist but he would not take no for an answer. *sigh* When did I become the old woman you give your seat up for?

Tomorrow it's on to Key West.

  2. Cheerleaders at a baseball game??? Just plain wrong. If the fans want to cheer, great. But I've never seen a stadium of people at a ball game that didn't know how to stomp and clap without the help of pompoms. :P
